Conversing with the Gospel of Mark Advent Study

The Gospel of Mark is, many scholars agree, the very first narrative memory of Jesus that we have in writing. This Advent we will practice what Marcus Borg referred to as “meeting Jesus again for the first titime” through a close reading and sustained conversation with Mark’s gospel. A gospel that has no infancy narrative, and one where no character sees the risen Christ, is a perfect text for us to encounter an unexpected Jesus—one who doesn’t quite map onto any contemporary image many Christians might have.
